Vor langer, langer Zeit habe ich einen Vortrag über einige Nationalparke in den USA gehalten. Die Ausarbeitung findet ihr unten. Das Englisch ist zwar 9.Klasse-Niveau, aber fürs Grobe sollte es reichen.Ich habe dafür eine 1,5 oder ähnliches bekommen, aber wenn ich mir das da durchlese, wundere ich mich, wie der Lehrer da die Punkte zusammengesammelt hat :D.

National parks in the USA
In the USA are 58 National parks, they claim 13% of the general area. The government in the USA instituted the National Parks in areas, which are very special (e.g. Grand Canyon), or where rare plants and animals (Yosemite National park).The biggest National park in the USA, and the first in the world is the Yellowstone National park.
On the next pages I tell something aboutsome National parks.
1.Grand Canyon National park
Area: 4.779 km²
Based: 26 th February 1919
Special: A fantastic, 1.8km deep and 350 km long canyon.
About the park:The Grand canyon is a very special and beautiful place. A lot of visitors visit the canyon (4 mill. in ´06). It is so special, because of the fantastic, 1.8km deep and 350 km long valley. It was build, when a lot of water flew in the sea, the Colorado plateau was in the way, so they build the canyon. Then, 3000 years ago, the Native Americans settle the territory around the Grand Canyon. But 700 years ago, they disappeared suddenly. In the year 1540 was García López de Cárdenas the first European, who discovered the Canyon.During 350 years was the Grand Canyon for the people worthless. But on the 26. February 1919 it became a National park.
2.Everglades National park
Area: 6104 km 2
Based: 6 th December 1947
Special: Mainly swampland. Famous for its Alligators.
About the park: The Everglades are a very big swampland. The swampland is 12 950 km 2 . But the National park is 6104 km 2 big. The Everglades are called grass river, too, But it isn´t a regularly river, it is more likely a big lake, because its often only a few centimeter deep and overgrown with grass. Only on the higher places (the highest point is 2.4m above the sea level!) are
trees (e.g. Cypresses. King palms...)The Everglades became smaller,
1.because the Farmers pump water out of the Everglades for new fields.
2.the people in the cities need water, so they take the water out of the Everglades.
So it is on the “red list of the world heirtage” (Rote liste des gefährderten Welderbes).

Area: 24.585 km²
Based: 26 th February 1917
Special: Highest point in the USA
About the park: This park lies in Alaska, in the Rocky Mountains.There is the Mt. McKinley
(6194m) , the highest point in the USA . At first its name was Mt. McKinley National park, but in the year 1980 it redefined to Denali National park. Denali means in the Indian language “the high”
The park is good for:
Hiking: A ca. 100 km long hiking trail. You can go nearly everywhere.
Watch wild animals: In the Denali National park are bears, elks, caribous, dall-sheep and sometimes wolfs
Climbing: Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain in the USA is very good for
climbing.

4.Shenandoah National park
Area: 805 km²
Based: 26 th December 1935
Special: “Skyline Drive” a way trough the Park. Limestone caves with stalactites and stalagmites.

About the park: This National park lie in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the state Virginia. At first the people deforests all forest in the area where now the park. The park is called after a river, where is near by the Park. The Park is not very big,he is long and small but an excellent place. A lot of
people come to relax and hiking. Special in the autumn came a lot of visitors for to see the richly colored Nature.Because wide valleys on every side, you have a excellent panorama from the park. The most famous road in this park is the “Skyline drive” (169 km long). Altogether are 800 km of hiking roads in the park.You can camp in the park, ride and visit the 10 Waterfalls.
5.Mesa Verde National park
Area: 210 km²
Based: 29 th June 1906
Special: Old Indian Houses
About the park: Mesa Verde means in Spanish “green Table”, because it is a high and flat plateau. The highest point is 2600 m. It is the sole National park, where based because an archaeological cause.Albeit the Cliff Dwellings are 800 years old, the first Indian, the Anasazi settle the “green mesa” in the 6 th century. They are be excellent builder, crocker and basket maker. They build a lot of houses, over 600 pieces.You can all the houses yoke to dozen colonies e.g. Spruce Tree House, Balcony House or Cliff Palace. The Cliff Palace is the biggest Cliff Dwelling. It consists of ca. 200 rooms.
6.Yosemite National park
Area:3.081 km 2
Based:1 st October 1890
Special: Fantastic granite rocks, Mammoth trees, wonderful waterfalls and a diversity of species
About the park: The Yosemite National park was the second National park in the USA (after the
Yellowstone park). The Yosemite valley was formed by a glacier. The glacier build a lot of rocks to
a fantastic lookout.The giant granite rocks are steep, wonderful and up to 2000 meter high. The
best known rock is the El Capitan in the middle of the park. He is popular with the climbers and good for amateurs and advancer.There are big, fantastic mammoth trees, where can grow to 100 m highness and the tree trunk can have a perimeter of 30 m. In the Yosemite National park a lot of waterfalls, there are the highest waterfalls in North America: the Yosemite falls. They are 739 m high and divided into three separate falls. The falls flow not year-round, if there is a hot summer, the
water run dry.In the Yosemite National park are a lot of hiking trails. Who visit the Park must have a lot of time, because who want to visit all the sights, need a lot of time.
